BRISTOL, R.I. — ICON Boxing Club has been making a lot of changes in their facility recently. The boxing room is covered with fresh paint and a giant logo in the back wall, as well as new programs, class time slots, and trainers. One of the key contributors in strengthening ICON is Archie Vazquez, personal trainer and boxing enthusiast.

Vazquez  not only contributes at ICON’s front desk but also contributes in people’s fitness goals almost every day. Only working at ICON for two months, he’s already a familiar face.

He has been a member of the club for two years and recently earned his ISSA certificate, as a personal trainer and is making his presence known.

“There are usually people to take care of me and point me in the right direction,” he said wearing a beret speaking in a calm clear voice in a CES Boxing sweatshirt.

Picking up boxing at five years old, his fitness journey still continues today.

He grew up in Bronx, N.Y. At the age of 18, he moved to Rhode Island, eventually moving to Pennsylvania at 22. After spending three years at Pennsylvania, Vasquez has been a five year Rhode Island resident.

During his journey, he has also gained valuable life lessons that he shared.

“Always keep my head cool,” he said about learning boxing. “Same way you live your life, you got to keep yourself cool with everything you face.”

Vazquez enjoys the opportunity that the club provides and enjoys the company of it’s members.

“Everybody pretty much knows each other,” he said. “That’s why I love this place, everyone treats you like family.”

Vazquez also instructs Fight Camp, every Thursday night at 6:15 p.m. and 7:15 p.m.

ICON’s newest faculty member is a fitness and boxing enthusiast with a heart of a personal coach, willing to help members get to their fitness goals.
