BRISTOL, R.I. – Dinis “Sweetbread” Paiva is well-known for his talented mix martial arts skills and his recent string of highlight reel first round knockouts.
Paiva, 27, from East Providence, R.I. is a Classic Entertainment and Sports mixed martial artist. Paiva recently won the 2014 Most Improved Professional Award. After an ordinary start in his career with CES, the future is shining bright for the upcoming star.
He defeated his recent opponent Matt Doherty by technical knockout (TKO) in just 10 seconds on Jan. 30 at the CES MMA XXVII event. It occurred at Twin River Casino. Doherty had an impressive 3-1 record heading into his match with Paiva.
Paiva improved his strength and conditioning for his previous fight. That wasn’t the only aspect he improved. “The big thing is confidence,” he said, “I established a new line of confidence mentally.”
MMA is more than a fight between two individuals. “It’s a multidimensional sport,” he said, “it’s a lot like chess, but physically. It’s the physical chess of modern combat sports.”
For those who are interested in getting involved with MMA, Paiva has veteran advice. “There is so much to learn but you can’t get discouraged. It’s a very humbling sport.”
Paiva and his trainer Keith Allan from Seekonk, Mass. have been participating in Fight Fridays at ICON Boxing Club. Paiva regularly spars with Jesse “The Bull” Amarelo, Owner and Founder of ICON Boxing Club, every Friday afternoon.
“I see nothing but growth here”, said Allan. “Jesse’s been putting in the grindstone, and I see nothing but a promising future for him.”
“Really humble people here at ICON,” said Paiva. “If you want your kid to get into a combat sport, it’s somewhere you want to get them involved with. It’s a great community and Jesse’s a great guy and looks for the kid’s best interest.”
